carryon backpacks and big personal item

The Eagle Creek Global Companion 40L and Osprey Fairview 55L are my favorite carry-on travel backpacks.

This white backpack counts as a personal item on budget airlines like Spirit, RyanAir, and Frontier and it fits SO much! Why pay for a carry-on when your personal item fits two pairs of shoes, 7 outfits, your laptop, and toiletries?

luggage

The wheeled Osprey Sojourn gives you the best of both worlds of a wheeled suitcase and a backpack. The wheels and handle do make the bag slightly smaller.

At this price point, you can’t beat the Traveler’s Choice 22-inch luggage. I recommend buying a 22-inch suitcase as it is the largest dimension for a carry-on on most airlines.

I don’t have it linked, but my current favorite suitcase is the Calpak Hardyn 22-inch.

personal items & daypacks

I use the black Lovevook backpack as my daypack/personal item on most of my long-term trips. It has a laptop sleeve with pockets, a charging port, two water bottle pockets, a luggage sleeve, a large top-loading front pocket, a hidden back pocket, a waterproof front pocket, and two more front pockets.

The 4Monster Hiking Daypack isn’t just a normal daypack, it’s a packable daypack. I’ve had other backpacks ask me so many questions on this pack, because it’s a game-changer! It folds up to be the size of your phone but is large enough to fit a 15-inch laptop or hold enough for a 2-night hiking trip. It’s made of tent material so you don’t have to compromise on weight either.

On some shorter trips or trips where I’m not backpacking, I like to pair the white personal item backpack with a piece of rolled luggage. This backpack is HUGE. It has a luggage strap, shoe compartment, laptop sleeve, charging port, and enough space to shove some souvenirs for me to bring home.

packable bags

Longchamp bags may be at a higher price point, but their durability and functionality are worth the investment. They can be folded into perfect squares which are easy to pack away and they’re made out of strong material that won’t break on you, all while being stylish.

If you want a super minimalist packable backpack, try the 4Monster Daypack. It folds up into the size of a phone.

bags for hikes & long walks

I like having a small backpack with a water bladder for long hikes. I don’t usually bring this bag backpacking unless I’m going to a hiking-centric destination.

If you’re not convinced about this 4Monster Daypack yet, this is my final plea to get it! I took this on my 2-night Tayrona National Park overnight hike, and it fit my water, camp shoes, snacks, 2 outfits, camera, and rain gear!

I think a bum bag/fanny pack is something every backpacker needs. They’re more secure than a normal bag and great for everyday wear.
